My research interests revolve around evolutionary ecology and physiology of reproduction and development. I study how the environment affects embryos, larvae or neonates, and the way offspring are affected by the physiology and behaviour of the mother.

 

I also have a fascination with the evolution and physiology of birth and hatching, especially the way perinatal-neonatal transitions differ among species. I believe that in many cases difference in patterns of embryonic morphology and physiology at birth can be linked to adaptations to specific challenges faced by the newborns. Therefore, to understand how and why the different patterns  have evolved, we need to view them in the context of natal environments.
